Barichara & Girón
Beautiful Barichara is a perfectly maintained hilltop colonial town. Upon arrival the town’s whitewashed walls welcome you into an oasis of calm overlooked by the imposing Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepcion. Walk the old Camino Real from Barichara to the next town of Guane, ponder the works of art in the sculpture garden and breathe in history and culture.
The “White City” located on the outskirts of Bucaramanga harks back to a time when the Republicans in Colombia were struggling for Independence from Spain. Founded in 1631 and now restored to near perfection, Girón stands out for the quality of its churches and antiquated streets all dating back to the 17th century and spanning 46 city blocks in size.
