As the capital of the department of the Putumayo, Mocoa makes for an adventurous destination in that it is part of the Colombian Amazon. Conveniently located close to the border with Ecuador in the south of the country, this exotic region is easily reached from both Pasto and San Agustin due to its strategic position as a link between the Andes Mountains and the Amazon jungle.
Mocoa enjoys a tropical and humid climate helping you shake off any chills from the high altitudes associated with Andean travel and is an ideal place for exploring, trail hiking and camping. Many, if not all of the attractions found here are natural wonders and are for the most part free of charge such as hiking in the Mandiyaco Canyon, bathing in the Rumiyaco River and visiting one of many waterfalls located nearby.
There are other breathtaking sights as well, including the Fin del Mundo and activities such as bird watching and tubing down the Mocoa River.
