Almost 800km northwest from the Colombian mainland are the Colombian Caribbean islands of San Andres and Providencia. Better known for their beaches, diving and Caribbean culture the two islands are actually very different from one another. Put your Spanish language skills to one side and try the lilting Caribbean pidgin English of the locals. San Andres is the low lying bigger of the two and is a holiday destination par excellence for those wishing to do nothing more than to divide their time shopping for quality imported tax free goods and laze around on the beach during the day and sip cocktails at night. Providencia on the other hand is more rugged; less visited and attracts couples and adventurous spirits looking to follow the footsteps of one Henry Morgan.
